One of the UK's largest manufacturers of bottles for the consumer goods industry, has joined North of England Excellence as a Partner Member.

ALPLA UK (Port Sunlight) employs 98 people at its plant in Port Sunlight, Wirral, manufacturing bottles to for laundry liquids and detergents amongst others. The manufacturing facility, built in 1999 within the Port Sunlight plant of Unilever, one of their global customers, has enabling Just in Time and Lean manufacturing benefits to be realised.

Founded in 1955, ALPLA is still a family-owned Austrian business. Now with 148 plants around the globe, it is one of the world's largest manufacturers of bottles and caps.

Steve McEvoy, Plant Manager, said the company had embarked on a business improvement initiative, almost three years ago and wanted to continue to improve its performance further. "Membership to North of England Excellence will help us to benchmark ourselves and support the business as it continues on its journey to business excellence."

Partner Membership is a new membership category for 2012 and offers wide-ranging benefits including introductions to other members to share best practice, access to research material, an annual business improvement health check, a free place at all NOEE conferences, a table for ten at the annual North of England Excellence Awards ceremony, discount on training courses and an annual Partner Members' lunch and conference.
